Tsepo Masilela, who once wore the colors of Kaizer Chiefs as a defender, has shared his perspective on how the club can elevate their competitive edge against rivals Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates. His advice? The Chiefs should focus on acquiring more seasoned players from the national team, Bafana Bafana.
Masilela highlighted Brandon Petersen, the goalkeeper, and Mduduzi Shabalala, an attacking midfielder, as players with significant potential to become regulars for the national team. However, he noted that for Shabalala, the path to the Bafana Bafana squad requires consistent performance on the field and an increase in his goal-scoring contributions.
In identifying areas for improvement within the team, Masilela pointed out Sphephelo “Yaya” Sithole, a midfielder, as a strategic addition. He argued that a robust defensive midfielder like Sithole would be instrumental in fortifying the team’s midfield, offering a strong backbone to complement their current lineup.
Even though Kaizer Chiefs have already made new signings in preparation for the 2026/27 season, Masilela emphasized that the inclusion of proven South African internationals is vital. Such strategic recruiting, he believes, is essential if the Chiefs aim to reclaim their standing and vie for major trophies once more.
