The recent BRICS Summit in New Delhi, which centered on global governance and economic cooperation, concluded with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa returning home. However, upon his return, he has stepped back from public duties following medical advice to rest and recuperate.
President Ramaphosa’s withdrawal from public engagements was announced by the South African Presidency, which stated that government ministers would handle his public responsibilities during his recovery period. This decision comes in the aftermath of the 18th BRICS Summit, held on September 12 and 13, where international leaders gathered to discuss pressing global issues.
While the specifics of Ramaphosa’s health condition remain undisclosed, the Presidency assured that governmental operations would continue uninterrupted. This assurance is crucial, especially as Deputy President Paul Mashatile is also on the mend from a medical procedure, leaving the top two positions temporarily unoccupied for public appearances.
Despite the absence of both Ramaphosa and Mashatile from the public eye, their offices continue to function, ensuring that the South African government’s operations and delegated responsibilities proceed as usual. The situation underscores the importance of maintaining a steady governmental presence during times when top officials are unavailable.
