A significant wave of Zimbabwean nationals, totaling over 60,000, has made the journey back to their homeland from South Africa as Zimbabwe’s government steps up efforts to facilitate their reintegration. Official data reveals that 11,065 individuals were repatriated through collaborative initiatives between the South African and Zimbabwean authorities, while a larger group of 47,703 chose to return on their own accord. Within these numbers are 2,449 adult men, 2,407 adult women, and 4,955 minors.
Zimbabwei’s President, Emmerson Mnangagwa, has called on families and local communities to extend a warm welcome to these returning citizens. He emphasized that the government has put in place comprehensive strategies to ensure that the reintegration process is safe, dignified, and smooth for all involved. The focus is on creating a supportive environment for the returnees as they adjust back to life in Zimbabwe.
In addition to government support, the returnees are bringing back valuable skills that could benefit the nation. Presidential spokesperson George Charamba highlighted that many of these individuals have acquired expertise in sectors such as horticulture, which holds the potential to invigorate Zimbabwe’s economy and enhance its export capabilities.
