Vietnam is intensifying its efforts to boost trade and investment relations with the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and Egypt, focusing on increasing market access and enhancing economic partnerships. Vietnamese Vice President Võ Thị Ánh Xuân emphasized the importance of leveraging the existing Vietnam-EAEU Free Trade Agreement to bolster bilateral trade and investment. She proposed potential upgrades to the agreement and urged the EAEU to address existing trade barriers affecting Vietnamese exports such as textiles, footwear, and rice.
In discussions aimed at strengthening economic ties, both parties considered ways to improve coordination in trade data, speed up joint committee meetings, and expand the use of electronic certificates of origin. Officials from the EAEU noted that bilateral trade had nearly doubled, highlighting a promising outlook for further growth and collaboration.
Separately, Vice President Xuân met with Egyptian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Hussein Mohamed Ahmed Eissa, advocating for increased high-level exchanges and deeper economic cooperation between Vietnam and Egypt. She expressed a desire for progress toward establishing a Vietnam-Egypt free trade agreement and identified key sectors such as agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, digital transformation, education, and renewable energy as areas ripe for expanded collaboration.
These discussions took place in Bishkek, where Vietnam was participating in the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Plus Summit. This international gathering provided a platform for Vietnam to pursue stronger economic and diplomatic connections with its regional partners, reinforcing its commitment to fostering comprehensive partnerships across the region.
