Cape Town is set to undergo a planned power outage for essential maintenance on its electricity infrastructure, affecting over 60 areas in the southern part of the city. The outage will take place from 10 p.m. on Saturday, September 26, until 8 a.m. on Sunday, September 27, 2026. This maintenance effort is part of the city’s ongoing initiative to upgrade ageing electricity systems, enhance network reliability, and bolster power supply resilience.
The areas impacted by this power interruption include Muizenberg, St James, Clovelly, Fish Hoek, Kalk Bay, Simon’s Town, Sun Valley, Noordhoek, Kommetjie, Ocean View, Masiphumelele, Steenberg, and Westlake. The City of Cape Town has advised residents to switch off electrical appliances ahead of the outage to prevent potential damage from power surges when electricity is restored. Additionally, residents are warned to treat all electrical installations as live during the maintenance period, despite the power being off.
While the scheduled outage is set for a 10-hour window, the restoration of electricity may occur earlier if the maintenance work progresses ahead of schedule. The city’s efforts underscore a significant investment in infrastructure to support long-term energy reliability in the region.
