In a recent meeting in Cairo, Chinese President Xi Jinping emphasized the need for a new security architecture in the Middle East, advocating for principles of cooperation, dialogue, and respect for national sovereignty. During discussions with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Xi proposed a four-pronged strategy aimed at enhancing regional security collaboration, addressing interconnected conflicts, fostering economic growth, and improving international coordination. He highlighted the importance for nations in the region to assume greater responsibility for their own security while opposing external interference.

Xi Jinping underscored the centrality of the Palestinian issue in resolving broader tensions across the Middle East. He expressed China’s willingness to work alongside regional countries to safeguard international shipping routes, promote economic development, and tackle the underlying causes of conflicts. According to Xi, adherence to the United Nations Charter and international law should remain the cornerstone for addressing regional challenges.

Economic cooperation was another focal point of the talks, with Xi and El-Sisi discussing ways to strengthen China-Egypt economic ties. Xi advocated for increased collaboration in various sectors, including infrastructure, energy, agriculture, communications, electric vehicles, green energy, aerospace, and the digital economy. The economic relationship between China and Egypt has been robust, with China serving as Egypt’s largest trading partner and import source for 14 consecutive years. This partnership has seen bilateral trade nearly double, from $10.21 billion in 2013 to $20.79 billion in 2025.

The dialogue led to the signing of over 20 cooperation agreements in diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, trade, technology, education, transportation, and industrial supply chains. Additionally, the two nations released a joint statement aimed at further reinforcing their comprehensive strategic partnership. The agreements are set to enhance collaboration and mutual benefits in these key areas, reflecting the growing economic and strategic ties between China and Egypt.
