On Sunday, Kyiv endured new waves of missile and drone attacks launched by Russia, resulting in the death of at least one individual and injuries to 13 others, as reported by Ukrainian officials. These strikes followed a day after Ukraine targeted Russian logistics facilities and warehouses, escalating tensions further.
As air-raid sirens blared warnings of incoming ballistic missiles, explosions reverberated through the Ukrainian capital. Authorities confirmed that the attacks impacted six districts within Kyiv. Notably, an apartment building in the Solomianskyi district suffered damage, while fires erupted at both a supermarket and a residential property in the Sviatoshynskyi district. Additional strikes were recorded at a shopping and entertainment center in the Dniprovskyi district, an apartment building in the Shevchenkivskyi district, and a non-residential facility.
Beyond Kyiv, the central Dnipropetrovsk region was also targeted, where a Russian drone attack claimed another life. On the Russian front, officials reported one casualty in the Kursk region due to a Ukrainian strike. This latest surge in hostilities follows Ukrainian drone assaults on logistics sites situated in Russia’s Moscow and Tambov regions. Ukrainian authorities indicated that these facilities were associated with the production and navigation of drone components.
In recent months, Ukraine has escalated its long-range offensives against Russian territory, focusing on infrastructure and energy targets, as a countermeasure to the persistent Russian bombardments since the conflict’s onset in 2022. Concurrently, Ukraine is navigating internal political pressures following a recent governmental shakeup. Demonstrations erupted in multiple cities for the third consecutive day, as thousands protested the dismissal of Defense Minister Mykhailo Fedorov, fueling speculation about potential broader changes within the military leadership.
